AAUW Louisiana State ConventionThe AAUW Louisiana State Convention is held once per year. The convention planning committee works hard to come up with an informative speaker at a comfortable venue with a nice luncheon. Our AAUW Louisiana Student Advisory Council (SAC) also plans their own breakout session and speaker. We hope to have an increased representation from Louisiana at the next National Convention on May 5-8, 2011 in Washington, DC.
I attended my first AAUW National Convention in June, and found it invigorating and empowering to be with so many dynamic, passionate women! It was truly a memorable experience! It made me feel very proud to be part of AAUW and what the organization has accomplished so far. But we still have a long way to go! With key issues such as the wage gap and gender discrimination happening every day, I found the words of Lilly Ledbetter and Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) so inspiring! They each have been tireless advocates in fighting for key issues and positive societal change…and continue to do so! I encourage everyone to start thinking about, and planning for, the next National Convention on May 5-8, 2011 in Washington, DC. We hope to have an increased representation from Louisiana. The State is making plans now to help with more travel funding as an investment in our Members! Stay tuned for more details in the future.
